The trick to eating whatever you want
Intuitive eating is often promoted as eating whatever you want, whenever you want. There is full permission to enjoy any and all foods, however, there is more to it than that. The idea of whatever, whenever leaves many people fearing they would eat nothing but “junk”, high density foods - pizza, french fries, cookies without regard. But the key to eating whatever you want, is being INTUNE with WANT you want and HOW you feel. Imagine if you ate nothing but pizza, fried foods, and baked goods. Imagine how you would feel. Chances are after a few days you'd feel sluggish and have a stomachache. Would you choose to continue feeling this way?Choice plays a big role as you learn to become an intuitive eater. You take notice of how you feel and then you choose how you would like to eat. You tune into the feedback you get from the choices you make and decide if you would choose to feel that way again.
Simple example: you eat a fried, greasy meal and end up with a stomachache. Would you choose to feel that way again? Possibly. Maybe the meal was delicious. But maybe next time you choose that meal, you choose to eat a little less of it. Or you pair it with something that balances out the way it feels in your body. Notice the answer after the stomachache was not immediately I will never eat that again. Also important to point out, if we choose to eat the same meal in a similar amount the next time, we can expect to not feel the greatest. But that doesn't mean we made a bad choice. Intuitive eating teaches you to eat in a manner where nothing has to be off limits because you can tune into your body to know when you’ve had enough. Step one requires you to tune in. In order to use the feedback your body gives you to make choices, you must first learn how to hear the feedback.
